Weeks 8 & 9 - 10/19/2015 and 10/26/2015

Here's what last week's agenda looked like, in case you have some reason to go back and relive all the fun we were planning.  I think most of the fun really happened in Mr. Giessler's multi-media studio.  Wish I had been there all three days.  Be sure to thank him!

Weeks 6 and 7 - 10/5/2015 and 10/13/2015

Better late than never?  I've never heard those words in the newsroom.
Nonetheless, here is the agenda for the week of 10/5/2015

We passed out a description of the basic editorial positions and a flow chart to show how they fit in.

On Thursday we interviewed Cam Place.  All Journalism 1 students are writing a double-spaced draft of that press conference.

On Friday we analyzed review articles.  There is no Review Analysis Worksheet, but you should:
  • Identify the reviewer's name, publication, date of review
  • Verify that the article is a critical review, not a preview or other type of entertainment news.
  • Identify what genre of art or product is being reviewed.
  • Note if the stars/characters/participants/directors are identified and discussed.
  • Note if the reviewer describes the details of the media used. (Is it innovative, artistic, cliché, etc.?)
  • Note if the reviewer expresses the critical opinion clearly. 
  • Record any particularly colorful or expressive language the reviewer uses.
  • Note if the reviewer sways you to want (or not want) to watch/hear/read/buy the item reviewed.
  • Note if you found the review interesting or not.
  • Record anything else of note about the review, especially if you have questions or we should copy (or avoid) some aspect of the review.

By Friday, you should have completed two analyses of editorials.  Note how much of the column is spent on informing the reader.  How much is devoted to the expression of a biased opinion?
